Zyban - Prescription medication to stop smoking

Special Report:
Smoked Out?

Smokers find it's hard to quit smoking, while smoking laws make it even harder to smoke in public.

Like all wildlife, smokers in the United States are facing a loss of habitat as more office buildings, restaurants, and entire cities adopt anti-smoking laws. Smokers are doing everything from going cold turkey to buying Zyban to stop smoking.

Quitting smoking can be hard!
Deb has quit...
Three times.

"I've tried everything. Cold turkey, chewing gum... everything," says Deb, who at age 30 has been a smoker for about half of her life. "I even tried the patch, but I couldn't keep the stupid thing lit." She is considering Zyban, a medication used to help smokers break the habit.

Despite her sense of humor about her addiction to tobacco, Deb knows that she would be better off if she could quit. "There's nothing I would like more than to be an ex-smoker," she says as she blows smoke from between her lips. "Nothing except that next cigarette."

Deb isn't alone. The National Institute on Drug Abuse reports that nearly 35 million Americans make a serious attempt to quit smoking each year. Unfortunately, less than 7 percent of those who try to quit on their own achieve more than 1 year of abstinence; most relapse within a few days of attempting to quit.

Medical Help for a Medical Condition
The addictive nature of nicotine means that smoking is more than just a bad habit. This is a medical condition; recovery requires more than sheer will-power. Zyban has been approved by the FDA specifically for smoking cessation.

The makers of Zyban provide more information at Zyban.com. The site includes resources to help you - or someone you love - quit smoking.

Although new to the market, many physicians are already familiar with Zyban. The generic version, Bupropion, has a long history of use for weight loss and, more recently, to treat Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in children. The medication is considered safe and effective, however patients who are taking Bupropion or Wellbutrin should not take Zyban. Doing so would result in a double-dose of medication.

Zyban is only available with a prescription. This presents another problem: smokers tend to be active people with little time to spare. They may not have the time to make an appointment to see the doctor.

Online pharmacies, like PillStore.com and PlanetPillStore.com allow smokers to buy Zyban at a price they can afford. This lower price becomes even more of a bargain when smokers begin to compare the price of Zyban with the rising cost of cigarettes.

Physicians are available online to help you decide if Zyban is right for you.
